Jay “Bird” Thompson (President) is one of the founders of Camp LUCK, Inc. He has participated in over 30 years of resident camping and spent eight years as director of YMCA Camp Cherokee.  Bird now runs his company Bird, LLC (birdllc.com) for art and fitness, and co-owns Baxter’s Bunch (BaxtersBunch.com) and muzzleJab (muzzleJab.com).

Kim Jackson (Information Director) is one of the founders of Camp LUCK, Inc. She is the mother of Jacob (heart child) and McKenzie Jackson. Kim is a former office manager and radiologic technologist. She has served several years as a heart camp volunteer.

Chris McKenzie (Treasurer) is the father of 3 girls - Sarah, Anna and Mary (heart child); Steering Committee member for Levine Cardiac Kids since its inception and thrilled to be a part of Camp LUCK!

Shannon Bone is a “heart mom”.  She and her husband have 2 children – Aiden and Rory (heart child). She is active in community through Heart Support Groups, her children’s schools and other interest groups. She has been working for International Paper Company in various roles since 1997.  Shannon and her family have been involved in Camp LUCK since infancy and are passionate about sharing their Camp LUCK enthusiasm with other “heart families”.

Carol Douglas is a graduate of Winthrop University and is employed by Eli Lilly, USA. She's the proud sister of three and has several years of coaching experience. Carol has participated as a Camp LUCK counselor and board member since its inception.

Avery Rodriguez is a student at Marvin Ridge High School. Avery has been a part of Camp LUCK since its inception and has experience as a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Cherokee. He provides support and insight as Camp LUCK's youth representative.

Dr. Rene’ Herlong (Vice President and co-founder) is the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute. He has worked at Camp Cherokee for more than 35 years, currently as Health Care Administrator and formerly as Assistant Camp Director. Dr. Herlong wanted to offer a resident camping experience to his patients and is very excited to have been able to help make this a reality at Camp LUCK.

Julia Engel (Secretary) was born with a congenital heart defect.  She is living an active lifestyle with 7 heart pacemaker implants over 32 years and is an advocate for a healthy heart as she participates in marathons and cycling.  She is a Project Manager at Wells Fargo.

Kim Ransom is a "heart" mom to Jack (now 10) and to Sarah (8) and Cooper (4). Kim is an original member of LCK and was currently the Director of the group prior to the merger with Camp LUCK. Kim is involved with many organizations and in her kids schools. She enjoys reading, working out, spending time with her family and going to the beach. Kim is so excited to have the 2 groups merged together and make things GREAT!

Bryon Mulligan is a Special Counsel, in the Charlotte office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, specializing in complex commercial lending transactions.  Bryon is the proud father of a 6 year old boy with a congenital heart defect.

Anmarie Wyrick is a “heart mom”. She is a mother of two – daughter Winter, and son David (heart kid). She actively gives back to the community by helping coordinate Police efforts to deliver food to the needy at Easter and Thanksgiving, to deliver poinsettias to the indigent elderly in nursing homes, and to deliver gifts and food to needy families during the Christmas Project. This “inside girl” loves her some Camp LUCK!
